May Milestones
Since opening our doors on October 1, 2025, Shoulder to Shoulder has served 1,217 woman and children whose lives continue to disrupted by war in Ukraine.
What began as a vision for a healing educational hub in Poltava has grown into a vibrant community where children regain confidence, teenagers discover leadership, and women rebuild dignity, skills, and hope for the future.
This spring, we celebrated a milestone at our fundraising event at Koi Zen Cellars in San Diego. Lena Mykhailova, Founder and Executive Director of Shoulder to Shoulder, joined live from Ukraine to share how your support is helping women, teens, and children living in war conditions. Despite ongoing air raids, Shoulder to Shoulder continues to provide a safe space for learning, healing, and hope.
With 76 attendees, the event raised $15,500 towards our fundraising campaign goal of $25,000. We are deeply grateful to every donor, volunteer, sponsor, and friend who stood with Ukraine during this special evening of storytelling, community, wine, and generosity. If you were unable to attend and wish to donate, it is not too late. Please use this QR code.
We debuted this powerful 2-minute video created by our teens, sharing their stories, dreams and gratitude. Please take a moment to watch and notice the sense of belonging that has been created. https://youtube.com/shorts/4k7ZbeNTk-l?feature=shared
As summer approaches, our team is actively expanding and refining programs based on community needs and participant feedback.
Summer 2026 program highlights
· Launching a second wave of teen leadership training called “Level Up”
· Introducing 3D modeling and creative technology classes for teens
· Strong parent request to continue chess classes throughout summer for younger students
· Personal Branding & Social Media Promotion for women-owned small businesses
· Launched a new initiative “Women Rebuilding Ukraine” – helping women rediscover their talents
· Launched theater arts course for all ages, culminating in a summer performance
These programs are about much more than education. They create belonging, confidence, creativity, and emotional healing in a time when stability is still deeply uncertain for many families.
“In the leadership course, I spoke my mind in front of others for the first time — and I was heard. That changed something inside me. Now I know I can lead, take responsibility, and not be afraid.” ~Yehor, 16
“…. it is a space of real mutual support. Being here allows you to breathe and rest from daily burdens…. Being with you is a powerful source of strength.” ~Viktoriia
Thank you for helping us continue to restore confidence, dignity, and opportunity for women and children rebuilding their lives amid war. Your support is more than a donation – it is a reminder that they are not forgotten, and that hope, healing, and possibility are still within reach.
